The discovery of illegal vaccines in Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday, has prompted a swift reaction from PT Bio Farma, an Indonesian vaccine manufacturer. The state-owned enterprise stated that vaccines produced by Bio Farma were continually under strict supervision from production up to distribution.
Head of domestic sales at Biofarma, Drajat Alamsyah said fake products could be detected by poor quality packaging, blurry batch numbers and color differences in the rubber stopper.
“We call on to the public to be extra vigilant and cautious when offered vaccines that are far cheaper than distributor’s prices or suspicious physical signs,” he said.
The National Police’s criminal investigations division raided a fake vaccine factory in Tangerang, on Wednesday and discovered fake measles, polio, BCG, tetanus and hepatitis B vaccines. Five suspects are currently being investigated.
